Kidmin People is an interview with various people in Children’s Ministry.
This week’s Kidmin People is a spotlight on one of our Georgia Baptist Missionaries, Maria Brannen. She is here in Georgia help you to equip our churches with resources to disciple our kids. Many of you met Maria at our Children’s Ministry Networking event this past March in Warner Robins. Feel free to connect with her again soon.
Maria Brannen
1) Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I have had the privilege of serving as a GBC State Missionary for 15 years. Before serving at GBC, I served on church staffs in Georgia and Texas for a total of over 25 years of ministry. I am currently also serving as interim Children’s Minister at my church. I have been married to my wonderful husband and ministry support partner Roger Brannen for 23 years. We have 2 boys Tyler (17 ½) and Kyle (12 ½). We are a homeschooling family and live in Bethlehem, Ga. My interests are photography, reading, scrapbooking, and card making. I grew up in Gray, Georgia. I graduated from Georgia College and Southwestern Seminary.
2) Why might a children’s ministry leader contact you?
Ministry areas that I can assist churches with are: Preschool and Children’s Discipleship (resources and strategies), Children and Salvation (The journey of introducing a Child to Christ); New Christian resources/helps for Children; Family Discipleship; Bible Drill; TeamKID; Student Speakers Competition
3) What resources and assistance could you offer for churches in regards to children’s ministry?
With the above areas – we can offer resources, consultations, conferences (we are available to provide training for churches and associations), State-wide Bible Drill Retreat.

Here is your next free children’s ministry resource to help you minister to children and families for effectively and efficiently.
Background Check List Template
This Excel file simply keeps track of each volunteer that has a background check and lets you know when the background check was verified. This is important because you want to update your background check every few years.
Simple. Effective. Necessary.
Some church management software programs will keep track of background checks along with membership database. This Excel file will help churches without that function, or anyone that would prefer to have a stand-alone list.
Think you have an idea that might make this file better? Leave a comment below.
Think you can tweak it to enhance it? Feel free to do so and share with us!

If you are looking for children’s ministry resources, one of the first places you should look in www.ministry-to-children.com. Tony Kummer started this website six years ago as a means to share his experience and resources with other children’s ministry leaders. This ministry website has become the largest children’s ministry resource website on the web of free kidmin resources.
Surprisingly, Tony is not the children’s minister of a megachurch. Nope. Tony is the faithful children’s minister at a small Southern Baptist church in Madison, Indiana.
Each week you can expect to find around 10 new articles or free resources pop up on the website. Free. Tony has a big heart for this ministry. This website was one of the first I found when I started in children’s ministry and it heloped me tremendously then. I am still gleaning from the resources provided.
What will you find here? Free Sunday School coloring pages, kid’s ministry game ideas, tips for working with volunteers, and lots more.
Certainly worth the time to peruse the website regularly. Remember you don’t always have to recreate the wheel. God has placed people like Tony and others into our lives that love to share what God has taught them in order to reach children and families for Jesus.
