What will you benefit from D6? If you believe in family ministry then the D6 Conference is one that you will not want to miss. Children’s ministry, youth ministry, and all areas of family ministry will be covered. A conference based around Deuteronomy chapter 6 that helps ministries encourage and equip parents to be spiritual leaders in their home.

You will hear from great speakers such as James Dobson, Les & Leslie Parrott, Ed Stetzer, Josh Griffin, Russell Moore, Rob Rienow, and Tommy Sanders.

I will be there connecting with other leaders in family ministry. And I want to connect with you too!

Let me know why you’d like to be at D6 in the comments below. A winner will be chosen and notified by Friday of this week.

Children who date are more likely to make poor choices

According to a study conducted by the University of Georgia, middle school students who date “have significantly worse study skills, are four times more likely to drop out of school and report twice as much alcohol, tobacco and marijuana use than their single classmates.” Link to UGA study.

Wow.

Huge repercussions simply to date someone you like. The study shows that children who date are more likely to make poor choices.

This study followed 624 students over a seven-year length of time. So the statistics make a pretty bold statement. But through media, our culture pushes relationships heavily to our children and youth. Relationships are prevalent in kid’s TV shows. Most songs are based around relationships.

I have even had people tell my five year old that he is the boyfriend of different little girls, or that they are going to get married. I always gently assure him they are just best friends. He prefers that anyway. I know people think it is cute. But why start so early??

We can’t get past relationships being pushed on them. So how do you address children in dating relationships with your students and their parents?

Share in the comments below ways you have spoken regarding relationships.

1)  Tell us a little bit about yourself.

I have had the privilege of serving as a GBC State Missionary for 15 years.  Before serving at GBC, I served on church staffs in Georgia and Texas for a total of over 25 years of ministry.  I am currently also serving as interim Children’s Minister at my church.  I have been married to my wonderful husband and ministry support partner Roger Brannen for 23 years.  We have 2 boys Tyler (17 ½) and Kyle (12 ½).  We are a homeschooling family and live in Bethlehem, Ga.  My interests are photography, reading, scrapbooking, and card making.  I grew up in Gray, Georgia.  I graduated from Georgia College and Southwestern Seminary.

2)  Why might a children’s ministry leader contact you?

Ministry areas that I can assist churches with are:  Preschool and Children’s Discipleship (resources and strategies), Children and Salvation (The journey of introducing a Child to Christ); New Christian resources/helps for Children; Family Discipleship; Bible Drill; TeamKID; Student Speakers Competition

3) What resources and assistance could you offer for churches in regards to children’s ministry?

With the above areas – we can offer resources, consultations, conferences (we are available to provide training for churches and associations), State-wide Bible Drill Retreat.
