Someone recently stood up in sharing time and expressed deep gratitude for how her son was welcomed at our church. His special needs had meant he was less than welcomed at a previous congregation. It made me realize again just how important it is to welcome all children! Shine Together: The Essential Guide for Leaders and Teachers has a really good section on special needs. The guide goes with the Shine Sunday school curriculum but even if you don’t use that curriculum, this is a good help for welcoming children with special needs. It opens hearts and minds to the possibilities. You can order it from the store at http://www.ShineCurriculum.com. With the particular boy mentioned above, our congregation provides someone from the congregation to accompany him during worship and Sunday school to help with guidance and impulse control. Even some of the older children are noticing what works and come alongside him in a good way because they see the adults doing that. It’s been beautiful to see. Recently we anointed him in Sunday school in preparation for an upcoming surgery. He in turn anointed each of his classmates. That day we knew we’d been to church! What a way to let children, all children, bless each other!

I would love to connect with other kidmin leaders in the Phoenix area.

When do most kids Easter programs happen? Right at Easter or prior (how many weeks before)? Do leaders have issues with Spring Break conflicts?
    Thanks.
